With Expertise in interior, furniture and graphic design they fully utilize their diverse design backgrounds to provide clients with an interdisciplinary range of design services.

They have worked successfully for the past twenty years with both residential and contract clients. Creating spaces that reflect their sensibility of comfortable elegance. Their mission has been to create spaces that reflect the needs of their clients within the framework of good design.

After a successful career designing and producing Industrial Shows, Rick Shaver returned to school at NYSID in 1988 and that same year signed his first design client. By the time he earned his BFA in 1992 he had already completed five residential projects. While at NYSID taking the required two semesters of Furniture Design, he discovered his passion for creating furniture

After several years of designing custom furniture for his Interior Design clients, Rick launched his own line of furniture at the 1998 International Contemporary Furniture Fair under the company’s name, Shaver/Melahn Studios. We have been very fortunate with this venture and today the line is represented by five showrooms around the country and consists of more than 100 designs including case goods, lighting and upholstery. The furniture is now prominently placed in collections such as the Stanford University Library, The HBO Offices in New York City, The Smithsonian and The William Jefferson Clinton Presidential Library.

We currently have contracts with several manufacturers including Cresent Fine Furniture and Odegard Rugs who are carrying lines designed by our firm.

Our Interior design clients have included residential projects whose needs spanned traditional to contemporary design. We have also completed many contract projects for large and small firms, showrooms and charity events.

Our work has been featured in such esteemed publications as INTERIOR DESIGN, METROPOLITAN HOME, THE NEW YORK TIMES, SOUTHERN ACCENTS, THE ROBB REPORT, FINE FURNITURE INTERNATIONAL, IN STYLE, HAMPTONS, FURNITURE TODAY, FURNITURE STYLE, HFN, DESIGN TIMES ,HOUSE BEAUTIFUL, O AT HOME and VERANDA.

Rick Shaver was named as one of GOTHAM MAGAZINE’s “ Top 100 Designers” in 2004. In addition to his design work, Lee Melahn has recently designed two books, The Bark Exhibition Catalog and Eight Decades of Design for NYDC.
